The Central Valley's Irrigation System Experts

Are you thinking about adding a flood line to your field? Perhaps a drip or sprinkler system?

Black’s Irrigation Systems has been installing irrigation systems for over 60 years.

Whether you are starting a field from scratch, or would like to modify an existing system to accommodate a different row spacing, Black’s Irrigations Systems is here to help.  We have the expertise to provide the best irrigation systems for your field and budget.  Drip/sprinkler systems incorporated with an automated filter stations can save time and water. Flood systems with large irrigation valves can apply large volumes of water in less time.  Depending on your preference and situation, we can install one or the other, or both!

Ask about our concrete pipe!  Flood systems with low head require large pipe to convey adequate volume.  Our concrete pipe prices are competitive and will beat PVC pipe when a larger pipeline is necessary.

We have expertise in modifications of both PVC and concrete applications.  Don’t let the other guys tell you that your existing concrete pipeline infrastructure is obsolete! Concrete Irrigation systems are durable and built to last.  Systems that were installed in the 60’s are still being used today!  Older concrete pipelines can still be modified to facilitate modern valve risers and spacing.  Line gates can be installed to provide more versatility in your existing system.  Plastic pipelines can also be modified if needed to improve flow or accommodate new row spacing.

Government regulations are now requiring flow meters depending on your location.  Most pump discharges were not set up with flow meters in mind.  Black’s Irrigation can recommend the best flow meter for your situation and modify your pump discharge to allow optimum accuracy for your meter if necessary.

FLOOD IRRIGATION

Take advantage of wet years with flood irrigation!

Flooding a field helps flush salts from the root system, improving the health and longevity of your crop.

The ability to flood a field with surface water can reduce the cost/acre. If your field has head pressure and your pipeline is sized correctly, you can save electricity with Gravity!

WHY USE FLOOD IRRIGATION?

Flood irrigation is usually ideal for the following situations:

  • Large, flat areas: Flood irrigation works well for vast, level fields, as it evenly distributes water over large expanses.

  • Soil type: Sandy soils that drain quickly can benefit from flood irrigation, providing more water to the root zone.

  • Crops needing high water volumes: Flood irrigation is ideal for crops like rice, which thrive in submerged conditions.

  • Low-cost systems: It requires less equipment and maintenance compared to drip irrigation, making it cost-effective for certain crops.

DRIP IRRIGATION

Drip irrigation can provide more flexibility during dry years and can reduce crop stress during harvest. Uniform fertilizer applications can be achieved via drip to help increase yields.

WHY CHOOSE DRIP IRRIGATION?

Drip irrigation is generally preferred in the following situations:

  1. Water conservation: Drip systems minimize water waste by delivering water directly to the plant's root zone, reducing evaporation and runoff.

  2. Uneven terrain: It works well in hilly or sloped areas where water distribution is challenging with flood irrigation.

  3. High-value crops: For crops like vegetables, fruits, or vines, drip irrigation provides precise control over water and nutrients.

  4. Water-scarce regions: Drip irrigation optimizes water use, making it suitable for arid areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Would you recommend PVC or Concrete pipe for my flood system?

A: Often times, we use both PVC and Concrete for a new installation.  We consider the size of the line, its purpose, workspace, and existing infrastructure before making specific recommendations.

Q:  Can you change my irrigation valve spacing to accommodate my new row spacing?

A:  Yes we can.  We remodel both PVC and Concrete pipelines.  Ask about our concrete protectors for your fragile plastic valve risers.

Q:  How big does my pipeline need to be?

A:  We can perform a field survey to determine the size of the line required for your application.

Q: Is PVC cheaper than Concrete?

A: It depends on the size.  For smaller pipe sizes, PVC is cheaper.  If you need a larger pipeline, ask about concrete.
